This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Industrial & Manufacturing Materials Center of Excellence and Expertise (IMM CEE), affiliated with the Buffalo Field Office. The selections will be made and oversight of this position will be maintained by the Buffalo Field Office, but the physical location of this positions will remain in the duty location chosen. Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your technical and administrative expertise to safeguard the U.S. commercial supply chains. This position starts at a salary of $91,231.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $118,603.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $118,603 (GS-13 Step 10). Salary:
Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection. In this Supervisory Import Specialist position, you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for all import requirements. Typical work assignments include:
Serving as a first line supervisor, directing and coordinating administrative work performed by Customs employees responsible for all import requirements relative to an assigned line of merchandise. Providing technical advice on the admissibility, control, entry, revenue collection and export of merchandise and of the functions and use of the Automated Commercial System (ACS). Providing guidance and training to subordinate staff regarding imported articles and providing authoritative advice to Import Specialists nationwide on classification, value and other related issues. Planning and assigning work to subordinates based on priorities and preparing schedules for completion of the work. Monitoring and evaluating work performance of subordinates; establishing or recommending performance standards and performing a range of supervisory functions. Please note:

Experience:
You qualify for the GS13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Serving as a Import Specialist responsible for ensuring that routine work assignments of an assigned team are carried out in accordance with established guidelines and with administrative and judicial precedent; Planning, conducting, and controlling the review, analysis, and processing of formal entries pertaining to assigned lines of merchandise; Establishing priorities for different types of entries; Reviewing information on industry trends needed and developing strategic plans for the assigned Center and providing recommends actions when necessary Please note:

The Supervisory Import Specialist position is a polygraph-required position. If you are not a current CBP employee in a law enforcement position, you may be required to take a polygraph exam and have favorable results in order to continue in the pre-employment process. There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency wavier by meeting one or more of the following conditions:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
