As an Equal Opportunity Specialist, you will:
Intake/Assess, investigate, conciliate, and/or resolve complex, highly sensitive and difficult allegations of discrimination related to housing, and employment. Conducts systemic housing discrimination complaints, which affect large numbers of minorities and women, or which have been in effect for a substantial period of time, resulting in institutional or flagrant housing discrimination patterns of practices. Interviews complainants and witnesses to obtain evidence relevant to the allegation of discrimination. Reviews policies and practices within the allegations for discriminatory effects and disparate impact. Perform compliance reviews of the fair housing policies/practices of recipients of federal monies, i.e., Public Housing Authorities, Assisted Housing, and other HUD subsidized housing programs. Assess program effectiveness by reviewing fair housing program plans for consistency with program objectives. Identifies operational problems and recommends corrective action. Gathers and synthesizes facts using information technology to develop statements, findings, and conclusions resulting in position papers which will be disseminated to community-based interest groups, the media, and the general public. Convene meetings of persons representing regulated entities, community organizations, and business and industry groups. Some or all such persons may be hostile towards each other and/or towards HUD's involvement. You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. For the GS-13:
Specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes:
- Conducting housing discrimination complaint investigations, analyzing evidence, preparing final investigative reports and making findings and recommendations; AND - Conducting civil rights compliance reviews of program participants who receive Federal financial assistance. (Examples of such experience could include:
- Assessing program effectiveness of program participants by reviewing program plans (e.g. Consolidated Plans, Annual Action Plans, etc.) for consistency with program objectives and identifying operational problems and recommending corrective actions; OR - Providing technical assistance and conducting training regarding the interpretation and implementation of civil rights laws; OR - Drafting statements on housing discrimination issues and preparing replies to inquiries of a controversial nature or program areas.) Time-in-Grade:
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.Time After Competitive Appointment:
Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
