Customs Entry Officer

This position will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide advisory and technical services to higher DHS officials within the scope of admissibility, entry and export of merchandise and revenue collection. This position starts at a salary of $85,810.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $111,558.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $111,558 (GS-12 Step 10). In this position, you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for a wide range of entry and control requirements. Typical work assignments include:
Performing as the team leader to subordinates and the technical expert/advisor to supervisors, clients, team members and the public on all matters relating to entry processing Rendering advice and assistance on all types of entry issues; approving the use of various types of entries; special applications and permits pertaining to entries of merchandise of exceptional variety and unusual complexity; and resolving differences in opinion between lower-grade entry officers and the import community Authorizing the use of various types of entries involving special requirements, such as appraisement entries, twelve-month bond entries, and articles for use by the federal government and diplomatic officers of foreign governments Considering, evaluating and recommending decisions submitted by subordinates' team members on protest and other requests for reconsideration under the Tariff Act Responsible for the overall management of Automated Commercial System (ACS) operations in the absence of a supervisor.
Experience:
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Working knowledge of a wide range of CBP laws, regulations, policies, procedures and court decisions related to the admissibility, control entry and export of merchandise, import/export requirements of other agencies Understanding of tariff classification principles Operating the Automated Commercial System (ACS), including work and document flow Working experience with ACS modules such as AMS, cargo selectivity, entry summary selectivity, bond, drawback, liquidation, protest and quota Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 12/06/2019. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
