Job Summary


Provide engineering support under the direction of others for electrical capital projects for switching and substations of voltage class from 4 kV to 500 kV from concept to successful completion in terms of safety, reliability, timely completion and within scope and budget.

This is a multi-level growth series position (Grade Level 25/26/27). The title, grade level and incentive target assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by assessing skills and related experience, learned through the interview process. .

Job Responsibilities


Responsibility includes, but not limited to:

Develop specifications for major substation equipment including but not limited to circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, reactors, regulators, capacitor banks, surge arrestors, etc. Will also be involved in performing system related studies, calculate equipment ratings, Work with engineers and procurement department in preparing bid requests along with proposal evaluation and equipment purchase. Ability to perform electrical calculations for various transmission and distribution related issues. Job responsibilities include the ability to cover on call assignments in response to system emergencies.

Job Specific Qualifications


  • B.S in Engineering
  • 0-2 years of electrical utility or plant experience.
  • Applicant must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and be results-oriented.
  • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills are essential.
  • Ability to cover On call assignments to handle emergency replacement work and assist during system emergency situations.
  • Must have a valid U. S. driver s license and a safe driving record.

Desired:

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment, e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, regulators, capacitor banks, disconnect switches and associated electrical system for switching and substations and or outside plant electric distribution and/or transmission systems.
  • Advanced technical training or P.E license.
  • Familiarity with utility best practices, IEEE, ASME, NESC and NEMA Standards.
  • Candidate requires knowledge of company or other industry engineering and design standards.
  • Experience in working on electrical layout, one line control, controls schematics for protective relays, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA and metering circuits in order to effectively support projects.

Experience with modern protective equipment such as microprocessor relays, substation data concentrators, digital fault recorders, etc.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
