We are currently looking for a Deputy General Manager, Bus Administration/Labor Relations to join our team! Roles and
Responsibilities:
Negotiates the resolution of contracts and other Union problems for Bus employees.
Advocates new initiatives with Unions to avoid litigation and to build a cooperative relationship with Unions.
Develops plans and approves in coordination with the Senior Vice President Surface Transit/General Manager Bus Operations and immediate staff, policies and procedures for Bus Operations.
Advises and counsels management employees of Bus Operations on proper approaches to problems, and assists in resolution of problems, including systems approaches.
Consults and coordinates with other Bus Operations departments to advise and assist them in planning new initiatives and resolving problems.
Directs the administration, monitoring and analysis of Leaves of Absence for Bus agreement and non-agreement employees - including FMLA, NJFLA, FLIP, workforce family leave and related leave absenteeism.
Counsels SVP/GM and senior management on interpretation of Amalgamated Transit Union, NJ State Council and local division collective bargaining agreements for hourly, field salaried, and general office clerical bus agreement employees and assures management utilizes agreements effectively.
Resolves conflicts related to current issues and develops long-term objectives associated with the Bus labor unions through the contractual grievance handling procedures.
Oversees Bus Hearing Officers and develops polices and procedures relative to formal disciplinary hearings up to and including arbitration when necessary.
Formulates labor strategy, conducts and directs contract negotiations as the chief representative for Bus.
Assures that labor contracts meet corporate-wide goals, and objectives are implemented consistently and fairly.
Develops strategies to reduce absenteeism and provides direction to Bus departments to ensure absenteeism policy is consistently applied.
Leads the team responsible for managing Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) compliance, including license check programs for Rail, Light Rail, and Access Link employees, plus all corporate employees who potentially use fleet vehicles.
Resolves conflicts and assists with resolutions to issues involving other types of contracts, legal agreements, and lease agreements for Surface Transit.

Director Labor Relations - Bus Manager Bus Administration Manager, MVC Documentation and Compliance Education, Experience, and Qualifications Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Labor Relations or related area, or equivalent Ten years of progressive management experience in a public sector environment, as well as experience with laws, regulations and policies governing public agencies in a multi union environment.
Preferred:
Law degree highly desired.
Familiarity with various departments within NJ TRANSIT desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
FMLA/FLA, NJFLIP.
Strong leadership skills required.
